Padre Pio (2022)
World War I ended and the young Italian soldiers returned to San Giovanni Rotondo, a land of poverty, tradition of violence and obedience to the iron rule of the church and wealthy landowners. Families are desperate, and men are broken, despite the victory. Padre Pio also arrives, at a remote Capuchin monastery, to begin his ministry, evoking a charismatic, holy aura and epic images of Jesus, Mary, and the devil himself. The night before Italy's first free elections set the stage for a metaphorical massacre: an apocalyptic event that changed the course of history.
